About the Exhibition (展览介绍):
Within four rooms by Quek Kiat Sing, a contemporary Chinese ink artist speaks of her personal living space, an apartment. Using Jendela as a metaphor of her living space, she develops an aesthetic framework which guides the viewer from the exterior into the interior. From ink drawings of still-life ink drawings of water-lily ponds, tropical ferns and potted flora to her personal travelogue and her intimate portrayals of her family members, each section of Jendala is presented in a systematic manner, mimicking her actual living space ... offering a momentary glimpse into her private space.
In this installation, Kiat Sing ponders over the intention of her art practice. From surveying landscape around her, she questions the notion of Chinese Landscape paintings. Does it necessarily need to be heroic range of mountains and poetic rivers? Are these landscapes still relevant to us today? She begins to recreate the view she sees, holding on to the aesthetics ideals of Chinese ink practice and yet creating a scape that is relevant to this present day.

四方四房里
是现代水墨画家郭捷忻描绘她的生活空间的一个展览。她利用滨海艺术中心的展览厅来刻画从户外到室内的情景。展出的水墨作品包括莲花池、热带雨林、盆栽、游记和家庭成员的画像；各部分有系统的模仿着她的住所 – 让观众有机会分享。
捷忻也在这次的装置中探索作画的意义 – 中国山水画是否一定要是俊山丽水；这样的景色是否还符合现代人的真实环境？她开始以她平日所见创作新的景、新的境、新的意象。在着当中她不忘坚持水墨画的审美准则，朝向这个目标而努力。
